"I can't stand you for the things you do to me
Everyday it hurts, never a break, don't you hear my pleas
Sick of being tired, Sick of being sick with you
When will you leave, I keep begging you to let me go ..."~Kerrian S~
Many times I have found myself in a complicated spot when dealing with S.L.E, Sometimes we get along and sometimes we don't. What I have learned is that regardless how I feel about having this disease, I can't do anything about having it. I mean, I did not pray and ask god for it, I did not ask for it for my birthday or for Christmas. It was given to me without question. Sure I have questioned why does it have to be me, I have come to realization that it was given to me because I can handle it. Not everyone is mentally or emotionally capable of dealing with this type of daily disappointment in one's body. So over the past few months I have made the decision to stop Fighting Lupus and start Compromising with it. I came to this conclusion because I was allowing the lupus to win, I felt my mental and emotional stability waning. So I came up with a few things I could implement in my life that would be beneficial to both Lupus and I.
1. Seek Professional Therapy- This is something I found has helped me and still is helping me deal with many of my emotions concerning the disease. Things you may be ashamed of talking about to your family and friends.
2. Stop trying to explain your illness to the world- Not all forms of lupus can be seen, I have S.L.E,Lupus Nephritis and Hypertension coupled with Fibromyalgia I have wasted years trying to explain all of that to people who will never understand because to them "I don't LOOK sick". You know how you feel and that is all that matters.
3. Live your life day by day- Don't ever make plans more than 24 hours in advance and that is too much in my opinion. With lupus you never know what you will feel like when you wake up, So in order to not disappoint your self or others DON'T COMMIT to anything.
4. Surround your self with RELIABLE people- Its important to have support especially when you are hospitalized. We know how frequent that could be when you are dealing with Lupus. Find real friends that will visit you when your sick and when you are well enough to hang out. Its important to feel loved and supported believe it or not but that alone can make you feel a little better.
5. Take 60 minutes out of everyday for Yourself- Designate a time ( the same time preferably) everyday that you can spend 60 minutes to yourself No interruptions. With lupus you need to relax and rest your body through out the day. So take the time to read a book, Listen to music, rest your Joints or take a much needed nap.
These are 5 things strategies that you can implement in your life whether you are struggling with lupus or any other disease. Apply to your life even if you are not sick, It will make a difference. Like I always say Lupus is no Tambrin Walk so live life today like there is no tomorrow.
